Candidate: Jerry L. Register

THANK YOU for taking the time to become informed about candidates running for public office in Bay County. My name is Jerry L. Register and I am seeking re-election for the position of Bay County School Board District 1. I am a native of Panama City and was educated in our local district until going to the University of West Florida and the University of Southern Mississippi for advanced degrees. I am a retired educator with 17 years teaching experience, 13 years in administration, and 15 years on the Bay County School Board. In addition, I continue to operate my painting business, “Painting with Principal Jerry Register.”

You know how “small town” Panama City is when I tell you that my wife, Faye, and I were in first grade together at Oakland Terrace Elementary School and graduated from Bay County High School, Class of 1965. We recently celebrated our 54th wedding anniversary and both of know we have been blessed far beyond what we deserve. Faye is also a retired educator who taught for 38 years. We have 2 adult sons, who along with their wives, live locally, along with 3 of our 4 grandchildren. We are all proud to be graduates of Bay District Schools.

Upon knowing me, it would not take you long to know where my heart lies on most issues. I have a great love for my Lord, my family and friends, and Bay District Schools. Love for my Lord is evidenced by my regular church attendance, singing in the choir, serving on various committees within the church, and actively participating in our Men’s Club. My church serves as my anchor. Frequent get-togethers with family and friends is a high priority. Fishing at the creek, sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows, taking a family vacation or cruise, watching a sporting event or show on television—the togetherness is really all that matters. When it comes to Bay District Schools, barring Covid restrictions, I visit each school each semester. That gives me the opportunity to be present to mingle with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Seeing the physical plant and its general operation is critical in being that “hands on” Board Member that I like to be. This approach allows me to “have my finger on the pulse” so that it is easier to know what is happening. Being visible pays off by making one more approachable and parents do reach out to me for help with concerns/problems they have regarding school issues. Many times it is a matter of following the proper chain of command for action to be taken. I attend as many extra-curricular activities as time allows. Band and chorus competitions, drama performances, athletic events, senior recognition, Military Child, graduation—you name it—I embrace as many events as time allows. “KIDS FIRST” is my motto and there is nothing I deem more important to the future success of our county than to teach our students the necessary skills to prepare them for a lifetime of achievement and success, whether locally or globally.

I am seeking a 5th and final term and humbly ask fort your vote and support. Your support can be as simple wearing my campaign t-shirt, displaying a campaign on your property, holding a campaign sign and waving to passing motorist’s, encouraging family and friends to be a registered voter and take part in the democratic process instead of being apathetic, or you could even make a monetary contribution to my campaign.
