Candidate's Statement

I’ve decided to run for a Supervisor’s position because I believe that in order to make positive changes in my community I need to be “part of the solution”. There are many things about The Villages I like, that’s why I moved here almost 2 years ago. However, I’ve found that there are some safety issues that create unsafe conditions for the people living here. I want to do whatever we can as Supervisors on VCDD#1 to see that the safety issues are addressed. It’s time to stop “kicking the can down the road” and get something done to correct problems.

Here is a little about my background to help you decide if you want me to be your representative on the VCDD#1 Board:

I’m a retired Air Force Officer. I spent over 20 years in the Air Force. First as a Russian linguist with the Security Service Branch (1969-1973) and then as a Civil Engineering Officer (1978-1994). I’ve lived and worked all over the world.

After retirement I’ve held several engineering and facility management positions in large school districts, municipal governments, and again with the Federal Government. My last 12 years was working in the Civil Engineer Squadron at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where I oversaw the Engineering Operations Section.

I’m very familiar with the design and construction of facilities and infrastructure. At the AF Academy I oversaw identification of maintenance and repair requirements for the entire base. I understand how the design and maintenance of roads can impact safety.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Honors from Tri-State University (now Trine University, Angola Indiana) awarded in 1976. I have a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette Indiana awarded in 1985. I’m a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado and have an inactive registration with the State of Florida.

I have many hobbies (pickleball, golf, beach tennis, snow skiing, boating, etc.) and love being outside. I have 3 sons. My daughter passed away in 2000 after a lifetime of medical problems, she was only 19. I enjoy spending time with my 4 grandchildren when I can.

If you feel I would be a good representative for you I would appreciate your vote. If you have any issues you want to see addressed, I’m open to your input and will not ignore your concerns.

Thanks, Ken
