Candidate's Statement

Mark Schweikert is uniquely qualified for election to the Board of Supervisors of Community Development District 5 in the Villages Florida. He was appointed to the Board of Supervisors of CDD 5 in November 2022 and is the incumbent in seat 4. Mark is committed to maintaining the lifestyle and standards that attracted us all to The Villages community and particularly District 5.

 

In addition to his current service on the Board, he has over 40 years of local and state government employment in Ohio. Mark is admitted and licensed to practice law in Ohio since 1980, (inactive) (No history of discipline). He served as Court Administrator for Common Pleas and Municipal Courts in Hamilton County, (Cincinnati) Ohio 1981-1995 with executive responsibilities over budget, personnel, and Judicial management of over 24 trial courts and staff. Mark served as an elected judge of the Hamilton County Municipal Court 1995-1999 and the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas from 1999-2006. He served as Director of the Ohio Judicial Conference with executive supervision over budget, personnel, and legislative advice from 2006-2016. Mark returned to the judicial bench as a retired judge by assignment, primarily attending to hundreds of medical malpractice cases from 2016-2020. All of his service in Ohio was subject to sunshine laws, ethics regulations, and public records laws.

 

Mark is a graduate of The Ohio State University, Batchelor of Science 1974, and the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University, Juris Doctor 1980. He completed all continuing education requirements as an Ohio attorney and judge.

 

As an experienced attorney Mark understands and can assist the board and counsel with legal matters. He is experienced in government budgeting, purchasing, and personnel management. He is also experienced in legislative work at the state level, albeit in Ohio. Mark served on many local boards in Ohio including as president of a Condominium Association, and on the board of a Development Bond District. He has served on many local government boards ranging from zoning to data processing, to Judicial and County Government. He has also served in executive /administrative roles to governing bodies.

 

Mark and his wife Patti purchased their home in the village of Sunset Pointe in May 2016 and have been full time residents since January 2020. Mark enjoys golfing in The Villages, is a member of the Bailey Trail Villagers, is a member of The Villages Woodworker’s Club, and is currently the coordinator of the Nelson Terrace AED group. He has completed the Villages District Resident Academy.
