Candidate's Statement

My name is Elizabeth Brannon. I bring proven results and a voice for the people to the Freeport City Council, Seat #2. I am a fifth generation Freeport, Florida native. I worked for the State of Florida for fifteen years. I completed nine years of service in Parks and Recreation and six years in the Department of Revenue. I have been a licensed Florida Real Estate Agent for twelve years and I currently hold the position of City Councilmember, Seat #2. I have two children and two Grandchildren. My son is a Navy Veteran and my daughter is employed as a Medical Receptionist. During my first year in office, I received a scholarship to attend the Florida Institute of Elected Municipal Officials course held in Gainesville and received certification. Also during my first year in office, I was designated as Liaison to the Parks Department. I spearheaded the implementation of the security camera installation in the Freeport Regional Sports Complex. I also worked with the Parks Director to help lower the electric bills by exploring solar power grants. For the past seven years, I have served as the Legislative Liaison for the City of Freeport. I have been active in the Northwest Florida League of Cities, holding several positions including President, Vice-President, Director at Large, Legislative Liaison, and I currently serve as an active Board Member. The Northwest Florida League of Cities represents and advocates concerns of the 17 Counties and 54 Cities within our District to the Legislators. I have actively advocated in Tallahassee for Freeport debt resolution and home rule. I played an integral part in Freeport being designated as a Working Waterfronts Community and as a Rural Area of Opportunity. I worked actively with Legislators to ensure language was in the DOT bill that resulted in Freeport receiving a debt reduction of 1.11 million dollars. I was also personally thanked for my efforts by Senator Gaetz for advocating for infrastructure needs, which resulted in a 3.2 million dollar Senate Appropriation for the City of Freeport water tie-in project. I was appointed to the Florida League of Cities Energy and Environmental Committee. As a member of this committee I advocated for water quality issues and protection of our creeks, springs, bays and estuaries from pollution, ground water runoff and landfill runoff. As a private citizen, I was active in facilitating a meeting with DEP and Walton County regarding the landfills that are just outside of the City Limits of Freeport. This resulted in funds being obtained to properly close the abandoned Coyote Landfill. I have also continually advocated for enforcement of regulations on another landfill that is set to close at the end of December 2017. I truly care about our environment. I have represented the City of Freeport on many boards including; Walton County Economic Development Alliance (former Vice Chair), Habitat for Humanity, Women Elected to Municipal Government, NWFLC (current Board Member), Walton County RESTORE (current Board Member) International Council of Shopping Centers, and Grit and Grace. Within the past few years, I have been your voice on the City Council. I have voted against water and sewer rate increases, millage rate and the Fire Tax. I believe that the City of Freeport will face a lot of hard decisions in the very near future as we discuss infrastructure needs on Hwy. 331. We need to concentrate on planning for the future growth as well. I ask you to let me be your voice on the Freeport City Council. Please vote for me, Elizabeth Brannon, on July 11th, 2017.
