Candidate's Statement

I would like to thank each and every citizen in Gilchrist County for allowing me to serve as your county commissioner for the last several years. I appreciate the support that you have given me and feel honored to represent the citizens of this county.

I have the qualifications, experience, and the desire to continue to serve you. I have the knowledge of how the budget operates and will continue to be your voice in keeping taxes low while providing needed services to the citizens. I will continue to make financially responsible decisions when spending tax revenues received from the residents of Gilchrist County.

I believe in honest open communication. I will continue researching issues that come before the board and strive to make the best decision possible, while upholding the constitution. I have and will continue if re-elected to perform the duties as a county commissioner with the honesty and fairness you deserve.

PERSONAL AND FAMILY

  • Lifelong 5th generation resident of Gilchrist County
  • Married to Edgar Langford for 34 years
  • Two children- Cody Langford and Shelby Crawford (Guy)
  • One grandchild- Crosslyn Crawford
  • Parents- the late Stanley and Ruth Akins both of Bell
  • A Christian and conservative
  • Supporter of the senior citizens, youth, and community

EDUCATION

  • Attended school at Bell Kindergarten through 10th grade
  • Attended Trenton High School 11 & 12th grade
  • Graduate of Trenton High School
  • Graduate of Santa Fe College- Associate of Arts Degree
  • Graduate of Saint Leo University- Bachelor’s Degree

OCCUPATIONS

  • 28 years- Teacher for the Gilchrist County School District
  • Operating family farm

A few of Gilchrist County’s accomplishments working together with county staff and state legislators:

  • Received 1.9 million dollars in grant funding for a new Public Radio Communication System
  • Construction of a new corrections facility
  • Received 1 million dollars of grant funding for a new County Ag Extension Office
  • Grants received for improvements of public boat ramps and parks
  • Reduced overall tax mileage rate for lower property taxes
  • Received $778,000 for Fire/EMS Station renovation

·         Grants received for future road paving projects-

    • Widening and resurfacing CR 138 in 2024
    • Paving Gay Road (NW 30th Street & NW 20th Avenue) in 2024
    • Approval for paving Dixie Grade (NE 30th Street) in 2025/2026
