Candidate's Statement

Sheriff Robert (Bobby) Schultz was elected sheriff in November of 2012. He has approximately thirty-two years of Law Enforcement, Correctional, Judicial Investigative and International Law Enforcement experience. Sheriff Schultz has worked his way through the ranks with experience as a dispatcher, jailer, patrol, property and evidence manager, general and major crimes investigations, crime scene investigations, supervisor, state correctional officer, both State Attorney’s Office and Public Defenders Office Investigations, and was contracted to work in Afghanistan as a Civilian Police Officer, training, mentoring and advising Afghan Border and National Police during “Operation Enduring Freedom”.

Utilizing his experience and long-standing working relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement partners; and using a commonsense approach to leadership and law enforcement, Sheriff Schultz has worked tirelessly to give the citizens a professional, efficient, accountable and transparent Sheriff’s office.

After taking office, Sheriff Schultz instituted the “One Team, One Mission” philosophy. This simple yet effective philosophy encourages every member of our community to work together to make Gilchrist County a safer place to live, work, and raise families. Working in partnership with our citizens and enhancing communication and encouraging everyone to be involved; while using resources within our county and beyond, has been critical in preventing and solving crimes.

Commitment to his responsibility to uphold law and defend our Constitutional rights and expecting the same from all employees of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, has been a top priority.

With an emphasis on community engagement, Sheriff Schultz has held numerous town hall meetings throughout the county, open house of the Sheriff’s Office, Weapons Safety Classes, AG WATCH, Women’s Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) courses, business and residential safety assessments, business training on active shooters, church violence mitigation meetings, among many other community-oriented programs and proactive initiatives. Giving our students and educators a safer environment to learn and teach has been highlighted by the addition of the “Guardian Program” with armed personnel on each public-school campus.

Sheriff Schultz is also a recognized leader from his peers, he was the first Gilchrist County Sheriff to be elected as the President (2020-2021) and Chairman of the Board of Directors (2016-2017) of the Florida Sheriff’s Association.

Sheriff Schultz is married to Ashton (Alexander) Schultz and has three children. (Kyle Schultz, Kasidy (Schultz) Pierce and Kolby Schultz)

He is a 1988 graduate of Bell High School and the son of the late Bob and Sharon Schultz.
