Candidate's Statement

Janet A. Barek, Candidate Citrus County Commissioner District #3

Janet is running for Board of County Commissioner District #3 because she sees a need for change in local government. She regularly attends and participates in the bimonthly Board meetings. Her goal is for the county to focus on needs such as:

·       Residential Roads

·       Lower taxes for property owners

·       Managed growth

 The Citrus County Chronicle has named her the “government watchdog”, a title she is proud of.

Janet does not sit back. She is involved in many civic organizations throughout Citrus County

·       Beverly Hills Irish American Social Club

·       Beverly Hills Civic Association

·       Nature Coast Republican Club

·       Homosassa River Republican Club

·       North Suncoast Conservative Club

·       Citrus Springs Civic Association

·       CCREC elected Committeewoman

·       Hernando United Methodist Church

·       Amvets Post 89 volunteer

Janet educational background includes:

·       Bachelor of Arts in Education, William Paterson University of New Jersey

·        Permanent Teaching Certificate from New Jersey, grades K-8

·       Minor in English from Hope College, Holland, Michigan

·        Florida certified Teacher – Elementary K-5, Middle Grades Integrated, Math grades 6-9, English grades 6-9, Special Education K-12, ESOL certified

·       Master of Arts in Special Education (Emotional Behavior Disorder) completed all course work at Western Michigan University

·       ServSafe for Food Protection Manager by the American National Standards Institute Conference for Food Protection

Janet and Paul married while she attended college. They were blessed with three children, Karen, Paul, and Jennifer. They have 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. 

From the day she started college Janet was active on campus. Freshman year she ran and was elected Student Government Association Representative. She was also elected and served as the Freshman class secretary. Sophomore year she was elected by the entire student body as SGA recording secretary. Her college activities included working at the campus bookstore, working in the audio department of the library, baking in the school cafeteria, joining a local sorority, attending and volunteering for sports functions just to name a few of her many organizations. These activities gave her a well-rounded education and social life and a desire to help others.

Janet is not afraid of working hard for her community. If elected, she will work hard for every citizen in Citrus County!
