Candidate's Statement

www.jeffbergosh.com I am honored to be your current Escambia County District 1 School Board Member, having been elected to this non-partisan position in September of 2006 and re-elected in 2010. Since my initial election seven years ago, I have a 100% perfect attendance record for every regular monthly meeting of the Board. I am a product of Escambia County Schools, Graduating from Pensacola High School in 1986. I hold a BA degree from San Diego State University and an AA in General Education from Grossmont College, (El Cajon, CA). My wife Sally (ECCPTA President-Elect, C.A. Weis Elementary School Community Volunteer Coordinator) and I have three children who attend Escambia County Public Schools. I also have two nephews that attend our schools. I believe in our school system, and I have a vested interest in this position because decisions I make that affect every student in the district also affect my own children. As of November, 2012, I have been unanimously chosen by my fellow board members to serve as the School Board Chairman for 2012-2013. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Escambia County School Board, I have previously served two terms as School Board Vice-Chairman and two terms as the School Board’s Legislative Liaison to the Florida School Boards Association. I have in-depth knowledge of our education system and I am a leader on this board. I have a wide variety of real-world work experience upon which I draw to effectively represent District 1 on the School Board, to include classroom teaching, small business ownership, retail management, property management, cultural resource management, Work Control Supervision, and Quality Assurance Management. In addition to my role as a school board member, I am also a full-time Government contractor working in the Engineering Annex aboard NAS Pensacola. Here is what I am NOT: I am NOT a lifelong employee of this district-- I have an outsider’s business-minded perspective. I have traveled the world and have lived all over the country. I’m not narrow minded, and I rarely deal in absolutes. I am on the inside of this district due to my position, but I consider myself the fiscally conservative “outsider”. I will continue to be your conduit because YOU the taxpayers are the Boss! Over the next 18 months leading up to the election I will be seeing most of district one face to face as I intend to implement a grass-roots, door to door campaign to meet with and speak to as many of you as is humanly possible. My motto for this campaign will be “10-10-10” 1. I will knock on 10,000 doors in district 1 2. I will raise a minimum of $10,000.00 for this campaign 3. I will improve by 10% my Election Day vote total (2006 54%, 2010, 66%--2014 goal is 76%) I’m going to work harder this campaign than ever, and to District One voters--If you humble me with the honor of being re-elected, I give you my word and pledge to you the following: “I will continue to work with my fellow Board Members and the Superintendent to make our schools as effective, efficient, and safe as they can be. I will continue to look to maximize efficiency, cut out fraud, waste and abuse, and I will always put students’ needs as the highest priority in every decision I make. I will consistently put Parents and Taxpayers’ priorities ahead of the entrenched bureaucrats and special interests, just as I have always done. I will continue to support intelligent reforms of our public schools, and I will also continue to champion the cause of and be there to support our hardest working teachers and support employees.” For a list of my specific accomplishments, testimonials, and priorities for continuous district improvement going forward, please visit: www.jeffbergosh.com Community Service and Affiliations (Current and Past): Chairman, Escambia County School Board 2012-2013 Chairman, Pensacola Chamber Centennial of Naval Aviation, Education Sub-Committee 2010-2011 Vice Chairman of the Escambia County School Board 2009-2010, 2011-2012 Member, Pensacola Chamber Centennial of Naval Aviation Committee 2010 – 2011 Member of FSBA Master Certified Board 2010-present Member, Pensacola Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee 2006-Present Member, Navy League of Pensacola Member, National Rifle Association Member, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Member, PTA various locations 2000-present Mentor, Take Stock in Children 2008-present Volunteer Asst.
