Candidate's Statement

GLIDEWELL PRE-QUALIFIES FOR COUNTY COMMISSION DISTRICT 2 SEAT DeFuniak Springs resident Danny Glidewell has pre-qualified to run for the Walton County Commission District 2 seat in the August 26 Republican primary election. “I am running for this office because I have a vision for Walton County; a vision of economic growth and an efficient, limited government. Walton County is a great place to live and raise a family but we can do better to secure the future for our children and grandchildren.” “I have been involved in public service in Walton County most of my life; serving as a deputy sheriff, coaching little league and helping as a community volunteer in several organizations. I have always believed that government service was a public trust and those chosen are servants of the people, not overlords.” “County government must return to making decisions based on what is best for all the citizens instead of what is best for special interests.” “Our local economy continues to be stagnant and one-dimensional. Many of our citizens, especially younger people, cannot find a job that pays a living wage. Quality economic development requires first-rate infrastructure, efficient government and low taxes. What we often get is a government that has overspent, overtaxed, and over-regulated. Our leaders say they are against raising taxes yet they continually are proposing new ways to raise taxes and fees on our citizens. Far too often these new revenue streams are used to put more bureaucrats in offices instead of delivering better services. We need more employees in the field delivering services rather than layer upon layer of supervision.” “Walton County is a large, diverse county with each area of the county having its own unique needs and challenges. For too long we have tried a “one size fits all” approach to county rules and ordinances. We should celebrate our diversity instead of passing more and more ordinances designed to force everyone to move lock-step with everyone else. This has led to watered down ordinances that often are unenforceable and meet the needs of no one. We can do better by targeting ordinances to meet the needs of a particular area or section of the county.” “If elected I pledge to work hard to make county government more efficient, to be more responsive and open and use all the tools available to bring quality economic growth to every area of the county. I ask each of you for your vote and support on August 26.” Biographical information City of Residence: DeFuniak Springs Occupation: Sports Official; Retired law Enforcement Officer Spouse: Theresa Glidewell Children: Kayla, Ashton, Thomas, James Education: B.S.
