Candidate: Sharon Roberts

Many of the residents of Walton County I have had the pleasure of meeting. For those of you that I have not had the pleasure of meeting, please allow me to introduce myself. I am Sharon Byrd Roberts. I am your School Board Member for District 3. I have served on the Walton County School Board for almost 8 years now. For the past eight years I have served the students, employees and taxpayers of Walton County as your Legislative Liason in Tallahassee. I am Master Board Certified. I have served in a number of capacities while on the board. I have served on the Calendar Committee , Small County Council Representative, Representative on the Walton County Education Foundation Board, past Chairwoman of the school board just to name a few. I have enjoyed my years of service to you. I bring to the Board 20 years of Management Experience. I have a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. I am also a Licensed Practical Nurse. I have also served as the school Bookkeeper for Emerald Coast Middle School for 2 years before becoming a School Board Member. The past school district Finance experience has been a valuable asset to me so that I may represent you on the School Board. I have been Accountable, Accessible, and have served you with Integrity! I have not been afraid to ask the tough questions or to make the tough decisions. I have been your voice from behind the board table as well as in Tallahassee. I have been honored by being endorsed by the Walton County Education Association. For me to receive this honor from our staff means so much to me. The fact that the employees of this district have faith in me to continue to serve them is so touching. I have worked very hard for eight years to repair the broken relationship between the Walton County School District Employees and the School Board. I was so thankful that my efforts to support the Students, Teachers & Staff have not gone unnoticed! I would like to say “Thank You” to the Walton County Education Association for endorsing me! I have also been recommended after a forum as well as an in depth interview by the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors. I feel so honored that our staff as well as members of the respected business community recognized my efforts! Thank you Emerald Coast Association of Realtors! Your faith in me will not be taken for granted! I will continue to serve you with Integrity! I have a vested interest in the Walton County School District. I was raised and educated in Walton County. I attended Bay Elementary k-6th grade. I then attended Freeport High School and Graduated in 1995. My mother and father Earl and Ruby Byrd of Point Washington instilled in me the principles that your community schools were an invaluable part of your community and that one must offer any assistance you could to them! My mother retired in 2013 after 32 years of service to the Walton County School District as a teacher’s aide. My sister Teresa Lowery is a school teacher and serves Walton County School District as a Reading Coach. My son attends South Walton High School and will be a junior this year. My husband is a bus driver and football coach at South Walton High School. I tell you all of this so that you may realize the Walton County School District means so much to me. I love Walton County and its children so much and want to continue to serve you. Serving you for the past 8 years has been more than a job it has been an honor! Early voting begins August 16th and the primary election is August 26, 2014. I ask for your continued support on August 26, 2014. I promise you that with each and every decision I will keep the most important thing in mind the children!
